Melody secretly wished her sister would lose her voice, especially when Imani bought her first guitar. Melody was sure she would play it perfectly, and her success would be sealed. She would be left at home while Imani sought fame and fortune in a far-off land.
Her heart softened when she found Imani crying. Despite the envy, she loved her sister very much.
“What’s wrong, Imani?”
Imani Matthews had the most beautiful voice. Everyone in town would testify to that. She was always selected to sing The Star-Spangled Banner at sporting events and asked to perform at weddings. Melody, her younger sister, knew Imani would be famous one day and was terribly jealous. She took lessons, sang in the chorus group at school, and practiced every day but could not develop the rich sound that seemed to come naturally to Imani.
